It's an idea that is well-intended, but discriminatory at the same time. Pennsylvania's Lincoln University, a predominantly black school, is concerned about high rates of obesity and diabetes especially in the African American community, so much so, they're requiring some students to take a fitness class in order to graduate. The controversial policy began with the 2006 freshman class which will graduate this spring. Students must have their body mass index or BMI tested and if it's too high...they have to take the class, which meets 3 hours a week, in order to graduate.
Critics are upset because not everyone has to take the class and even health experts admit the body mass index is imperfect because muscle weighs more than fat. However, the school points out that students do not have to lose weight, only pass the class through participation and attendance.Where do you fall on this weighty issue?
Don’t let the bed begs bite
I am totally grossing out right now watching Dr. Oz and his show on bed bugs.
What was once the rich mans curse kings and queens that had warm soft places to sleep at night? Unlike the peasants that did not. The tiny vampires that come out to feed just before dawn on our flesh are growing in numbers and infesting in our metropolitan area homes and hotels etc.
(Yikes I ‘m getting the willies just thinking about this) These little suckers can travel up to 100 ft to feed. My concept of being a host to guests in my home will never be the same. I have always considered myself lucky because I have a sub basement in my house and I have always considered my guests (daddy long legs and cave spiders, and centipedes) my friends as they keep all the other bugs away (never had roaches or ants)even though I hate the spider webs in the cellars. (I never go down there with out a broom to clear the webs away if I can avoid it I don’t go down there at all and I can live with and accept that. But these little suckers just totally gross me out. Just the thought of these little suckers feeding on me for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is enough to make me craw out of my skin.
What I am a little surprised at is that Dr. Oz did not cover any potential health risks of being bitten by these bugs e.g. mosquitoes can carry and transmit various diseases’ while I can under stand this if I were the only host (e.g. I am the only one that sleeps in my bed and home) What about if one stays at a hotel or motel where hundreds of other people have slept and been fed upon? That may or may not have had various illnesses.
So I end this subject and topic with a question…..
Do these little blood suckers pose any health risk to the victims that are biten?
People need to see more of this kind of story so that they see that gunowners aren't just wild eyed killers looking for something to shoot.
http://patdollard.com/2009/11/gun-toting-homeowner-catches-tweaking-burglar-in-his-boxers/
If you don't like Pat Dollard's site, here's the Denver Post article:
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_13803760
A homeowner in Golden (CO) held a burglary suspect in stolen boxer shorts at gunpoint last week, police said Monday.
The homeowner, who was not named by police, said he came home to the 1200 block of Mesa Court on Nov. 9 to find Timothy P. Gonzales, 24, of Golden in his home wearing only the homeowner's underwear. Gonzales allegedly thought the pistol the homeowner pointed at him was not real and "moved aggressively" at the homeowner, who fired a warning shot, police said.

Too many 'gun' stories focus on the incorrect uses of firearms. There are many stories like this that rarely, if ever, rise to even local noteriety.

This one hurts. This is where global warming alarmists should have started if they wanted me in the fold. I love pasta. Italian food, in general. When I was a single man just out of college, I lived off it. I have been known to bring it to work for dinner for days at a time. I've passed this love on to my sons, though in whole wheat form.

Now, it is clear. We have to cool this planet down now! Give me ziti or give me penne... just give it to me.
Have you heard the latest for your very own Jessie Jackson, Jr?
"We even have blacks voting against the health care bill," Jackson reportedly said at a Congressional Black Caucus reception Wednesday night honoring the 25th anniversary of the civil rights leader's run for president.
"You can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man," the Hill reported him saying.
---
The remark was a clear shot at Rep. Artur Davis, D-Ala., the only member of the CBC to vote against the House version of the health care legislation.
Davis refused to return fire against Jackson.
"One of the reasons that I like and admire Rev. Jesse Jackson is that 21 years ago he inspired the idea that a black politician would not be judged simply as a black leader," Davis said in a written statement to the newspaper. "The best way to honor Rev. Jackson's legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race."
Jackson later reportedly said that he "didn't call anybody by name and I won't."
You know, Jessie might be right? Maybe you can’t be black and not vote for the Health care bill. Maybe skin color, as Martin Luther King Jr dreamed it, would not be the judge of a man, but character. Maybe that’s what JJJr is saying.
Maybe, finally, MLKs’ dream has come true!
Or maybe we should listen to the great words spoken by Rep. Davis, D-Ala and decline to engage in an argument with someone that begins and ends with race.
What an excellent way to end an argument. I wish I could have been black so I could have said that.
But them Jessie, we are all black since all humans came from Africa.
I, as a very light skinned black man, salute Rep. Davis. Let’s decline to support the healthcare bill NOT because of the color of our skin but because of the content of our character.
Sometimes politicians and their enablers in the press just can't help but tell the truth. It sorta builds up inside until it just blurts out.
Take Poor Maxine Waters. She has breasts and an inability to NOT let the cat out of the bag...

You see, socialism isn't just about 'wealth redistribution' and social justice. It is also something that affects your entire life...because controlling money is what Socialism does and healthcare costs money so...
MSNBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman appeared on Wednesday’s Morning Joe and justified reducing the number of women in their 40s who get mammograms. "No, it is rationing. Let's be clear," she admitted.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: We have somebody that works on our team who's actually mom's a doctor who said, this is the beginning. This is the first sign of rationing. This is – you know, maybe we don't call it rationing.
SNYDERMAN: It is rationing.
BRZEZINSKI: It's definitely rationing.
SCARBOROUGH: You talk about the death panels. Forget the death panels. This is rationing saying, "Okay, we could do this. We could save some lives. It's just not worth the money."
SNYDERMAN: No, it is rationing. Let's be clear. But, you've heard me talk about rationing for a long time. But, you ration what food you eat. You ration how much sleep you get. And this is saying we should question about how we spend our health care dollars. And if it isn't prudent to irradiate that many women in their 40s and you take that money and you say, okay, – let's finds something better than mammography, which is isn't great anyway. Let's take the money and invest in new treatment tools. Then that, to me, is smart health care rationing.

So, as my new bumper poster reads...
OBAMA TO THE WOMEN OF AMERICA:
"HEY! HONEY! LEAVE YOUR BOOBS ALONE!"
Things are a bit tense in California.

UCLA is a large college in the University of California system in a very liberal part of Los Angeles (contiguous with Beverly Hills and Santa Monica).
I am going to ask friends and family who live in LA what might be going on.
Anyone heard anything else?
With all of Chip's talk of CHIPs and the End Times and Mark of the Beast...
I thought we might enjoy this posting...

Seems a certain Pastor Manning feels he is going to be arrested soon for his comments concerning Barack Hussein 'long legged mac daddy' Obama.
Personally, it makes anything Chip has to post seem very rational and should make you rethink your thoughts about me.
Cheers.
Stuff, stuff, and more stuff! What if you could cut back on the clutter, save money, and be environmentally friendly all at the same time? Well, new businesses are popping up online, promising to save you money by renting and not buying. The idea...don't buy things you wouldn't get much use out of....so it's about being a smart consumer.
These days you can rent practically anything, from jewelry to toys, clothing and you can even rent a car by the hour....yes, I'm talking about ZipCar!
But like anything else, a consumer expert warns....do your homework first!
Check out my story here!
I'd love to hear from you....would you consider renting over buying? Are you already on the rent bandwagon? Or do you prefer ownership? Let me know....I'll be checking back for you blogs!!
My sister is playing on a u-19 hockey team. Don't you think that parents would have such little shame that they wouldn't make 15 year old girl cry(they were out a few players) when they stand behind her and bang on the f ing glass when ever the other team get a goal. I think the rule should be like soccer no one behind the net.
Good for her beating!!! If mothers and fathers took care of their children like they did back in the day I think
they would not be as crazy as they are today! Children think they can just do what they want when they want
and that's it BUT when the crap hits the fan they cry like baby's!
Financial district somewhere...Does anyone know where it is?
If you keep your TV on... They are everywhere.... Besides the insurance, telecomunication industry and the politicians, they seem to be the only industry that can afford to blanket the airwaves with advertising....
"He called the law offices of....." Next time you get Tamiflu, get a broken arm put in a cast. or your kid gets his tonsils out........
You won't even notice it happen as the insurance company becomes the robot burgler for the lawyers. You just got ripped off big and you never see the money trail. The doctor says.... "There!!! That was quick and painless, wasn't it?" ...AND YOU DON'T KNOW THE HALF OF IT.
You don't feel a thing, because up until now, your EMPLOYER paid off the burglers. You never notice the bill is three times as high as it should be.
Insurance companies simply go along with it and pass the money to the real burglers. I don't blame them. They gotta live, and there's a gun to their head known as bad laws.
'BAD LAWS, BAD LAWS.... WHAT 'CHA GONNA DO?... YOUR LEGISLATOR VACATIONS AS YOU ARE SCREWED
BAD LAWS, BAD LAWS.... WHAT 'CHA GONNA DO?... YOUR LEGISLATOR VACATIONS AS YOU ARE SCREWED'
You see, as long as they all are bound by identical rules, to insurance companies, the specifics don't even matter. They tack on their regular profit and adjust the cost. Covering billions and billions of dollars to them is simply something they pass along. They simply pay off. It's much cheaper than fighting.
Every 'mis-diagnosed' or 'not given a test' patient, of which there are thousands, can re-coup millions of dollars, 2/3rds of which goes to lawyers.
For all the talk of 'special interests' by the Democrats, the lawyers are a favored 'special interest' that pay off the Democrats by helping them get elected. Trial lawyers are the biggest lobbyists of all these holier than thou hypocrites. And that's why the biggest cost is not even on the radar.
AND THAT'S THAT!!!
I agree- here is no time to discuss a state candy bar or other frivolous legislature in these times. But- I don't know about your Senator but my Senators, Stephen Brewer and Ann Gobi, work tirelessly and relentlessly in fulfilling their respective roles. They may not be on the hill for the res of the year, but neither are they sitting at home or vacationing for the next seven weeks. Not all of their work happens on Beacon Hill. Let's put it in perspective; I see you folks on TV for maybe 2 hours a day. Should I assume that you're working a 10 hour week?
Jerry Robertson, Spencer MA
A coin flip? Total points allowed in the 1st half vs. contending teams? A 20 year old power ranking system? These are the systems in place to determine the playoff fate of High School Football teams around the Bay State. Close to 40 teams will play on Thanksgiving day with a chance at a possible playoff berth, and an opportunity to play at Gillette Stadium, but it may not matter if some of them win or lose.
If a league finishes in a three way tie, it is up to the individual league to determine a tie breaking system. The old Colony playoff berth was awarded to Bridgewater-Raynham after winnng a coin flip Wednesday over Taunton and Barnstable. A coin flip? Are you serious?
If theres a, very likely, scenario of a three way tie in the Tri Valley league, the playoff spot will go to the team who allowed the least amount of first half points against the other contending teams. C'mon thats absurd.
And then theres the Super Bowl ratings system that was established in 1991, that could determine the Catholic and Commonwealth Conference Champions. Its outdated and no one really understands the rankings.
The MIAA really needs to step in and come up with a State wide Tie Breaker system that all teams know, understand and adhere to. The weird and wacky tie breakers that leagues come up with are a poor attempt at determining a champ.
My advice in a 3 way tie. Have 2 teams play a half of football, and then the winner of that game, play the 3rd team.
Let the kids earn their playoff berth on the field.
Thoughts?
There was an article in the Boston Globe Wednesday morning relating to global warming, er, climate change. Here is the link...
http://www.boston.com/news/science/articles/2009/11/18/carbon_pollution_up_despite_recession/
Essentially, it talks about how carbon pollution increased in 2008 despite the worldwide economic slowdown. A couple of things to note here... there are conflicting data sets out there that show the earth has either continued warming or even cooled a bit the last eight years. Even the warming scenario is slower than what would have been expected with the increase in carbon pollution according to computer climate models. Also, look deeper into the article and you'll see the increase in pollution was due mostly to China's pollution. The United States emissions actually dropped 3%. That sounds impressive until you understand that it is directly attributed to the lack of production due to the economy. Less production means less energy used equals less emissions.
Think about that... all those jobs lost, all the productivity loss, a crashing economy- it all added up to a 3% drop in emissions. So, in how many more awful economic years will we reach the decreased carbon limits the government is demanding.
And are you willing to endure it.
I wouldn't bring this to your communal attention except for the players:
The Boy Scouts
and
SEIU - the union Obama wants to help make America purple with...
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,575650,00.html
Pay careful attention to the letter sent to the local SEIU president:
http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/22659821-Congressman-Dent-s-Letter-to-SEIU.pdf Are things so bad now that unions feel the need to steal projects out of Boy Scouts fingers?
Is this an aberration?
I hope so.
And hurrah for that leader, Congressman Dent. That's what leaders do, protect their people.
Doug Meehan's look back at V-66 Wednesday night at 10, brings back all kinds of memories for me. Boston's version of MTV was must-see TV back in the big hair/skinny tie days of the 80's. Where else could you watch videos of popular local bands like Jon Butcher Axis and Face to Face as well as soon to be national acts like 'Til Tuesday?
Anyone remember their sports show Boston Sportsbeat hosted by Bill Stevens and Tank? Fresh out of college, I auditioned for a production assistant job and I'll never forget it. The producer and I accompanied Stevens to the Park Plaza and I helped set up lights and such for an interview. We were there to interview a rock star who also owned a minor league baseball team. The name of that team? The Delaware Destroyers and clad in a black t-shirt, black jeans and a killer pair of rattlesnake boots, the one and only George Thorogood greeted us at the door. The man who brought us raspy voiced hits like Bad to the Bone and I Drink Alone among others didn't disappoint either. His suite had two beds and on one rested his guitar while on the dresser, he had a jar full of cigars and a bottle of Jack Daniels. Exactly how I'd imagined it and the guy could not have been nicer and more down to earth. Ultimately, Boston Sportsbeat and V-66 didn't last that long...but it's always nice to go down memory lane and that's one memory I'll never forget.
